Am I Eligible?
What is Assisted Living? Assisted Living residences provide housing and a range of support services for seniors and people with disabilities who have difficulty living independently and require regular help with day-to-day activities. These support services include; meals, housekeeping, laundry services, social and recreational activities, 24-hour Supportive Care emergency response service for safety and peace-of-mind, medication reminders bathing and grooming services, minimal personal assistance (home care services as provided by the South Eastman Regional Health Authority) Assisted Living is the first stage in the “aging in place” concept where an individual may advance within the same residence as their needs increase. A typical applicant(s) would already be receiving homecare services and would in most instances not be able to operate a motor vehicle safely. If an interested party does not already receive home care services it is recommended that they contact the Home Care coordinator prior to submitting a residency application. The Niverville Credit Union Manor Seniors Residence policy is that all eligible applicants must take the entire support services package. What is Supportive Care? Supportive Care is the second stage in the “aging in place” concept. These individuals generally cannot live independently and safely at home and require assistance and/or supervision on a 24 hour basis. In many cases the Supportive Care residence will be an individuals’ final home prior to entering a palliative care or Personal Care facility or before an individual passes away. People who are already living in the Assisted Living residence and receiving the services listed above and have advanced in terms of requiring a higher degree of personal assistance or those receiving significant home care services in their current homes and can no longer manage on their own may be eligible for Supportive Care residency. An important distinction between Assisted Living and Supportive Care is that due to the increased needs of Supportive Care residents, an individual must be paneled by the South Eastman Regional Health Authority prior to being considered for the Supportive Care Residence. If anyone is uncertain about which residence the applicant should apply for, it is important to contact the Regional Home Care Coordinator at the Niverville Primary Health Care Centre at (204) 388 2030. In addition to the aforementioned provision of services, the Supportive Care residence will have a home care attendant on staff 24 hours per day 7 days per week. |
